About FORM DSP

Between musicand technology

I'm Dennis Rosner, audio engineer, developer and founder of FORM DSP. I've never been interested only in how to use a tool, but also in why it works. In music as much as in software.

01Background

It started with musicand became more

My background is in music and beat production and in audio engineering. Recording, mixing and the technical side of music came early, later my own studio, Sonore Studios. There I work directly with artists on their productions and see every day where a tool helps and where it gets in the way.

At some point, using software was no longer enough. I wanted to know how it is built, why a process works musically and how it could be designed differently. During my audio engineering studies, I worked intensively with DSP. Today I study media informatics, focusing mainly on software development and interface design. FORM DSP took shape from these two worlds.

02Approach

What interests me is not just loudness, but what it changes.

I like tools whose idea becomes clear quickly. Not because they are technically simple, but because their complexity has a clear purpose. That is how I build: first understand what should happen musically, then reduce until the technology and the interface follow the same idea.

03Standards

I build whatI want to use myself

  1. Close to the product

I develop FORM DSP myself, from the technical idea to the design. Many decisions come directly from my daily work with audio.

  2. Clear, not arbitrary

No feature gets added just because a plug-in is expected to have it. Every control should have a clear purpose.

  3. Direct contact

No layered support structure. Problems, criticism and ideas go directly to the person who builds the product.

04What’s next

FORM DSP is still youngthe idea behind it is not

PUSH is the first product from FORM DSP, but not a one-off. It is meant to grow into a small, connected family of tools: each for one area of sound shaping, all from the same way of thinking.

  • SPACEComing soon

For width, depth and spatial placement.

  • FREQUENCYComing soon

    For frequency and spectral balance.

  • TIMEComing soon

    For timing and movement.

My attemptto build things better

FORM DSP is where my work with music, software and design comes together. PUSH is the first result of it, and the beginning of what I still want to build.
